As the 2026 Rhode Island spring sports season races toward the finish line, Tuesday, May 12, delivered a thrilling slate of high school action that had fans on the edge of their seats. From clutch hits to defensive gems, here’s a look at the standout moments and scores from a busy day on the diamond.

In a game that had all the drama of a postseason showdown, East Providence edged Pilgrim in a 6-5 nail-biter. The Townies exploded out of the gate with four runs in the first inning, but the Patriots clawed back, scoring once in the first and twice in the second to cut the lead to one. Momentum swung Pilgrim’s way in the fifth when Abigail Bryson ripped a triple to plate Lia Wasilewski and tie the game.

But East Providence wasn’t done. Marianna Pina answered in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff double, and with two outs, Ava Silva delivered a clutch single to bring her home and put the Townies back on top, 5-4. Caroline Welch added some insurance in the sixth with a two-out double that proved crucial. Pilgrim rallied in the seventh, pulling within one on a Bryson sacrifice fly, but with runners on the corners and two outs, East Providence’s Cassie Dulude induced a ground ball to short to seal the win.

Nethania Figueroa was a force for the Townies, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI. Pina added two hits and two runs, while Trinity Provencher drove in two and scored once. For Pilgrim, Bryson knocked in two runs, and Wasilewski had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in the losing effort.

On the baseball side, the action was just as intense. La Salle and East Providence squared off in a game defined by standout defensive plays and timely hitting. Bronx Discullio, JJ Renaud, Xavier Rios, and Adryan Uren all made their presence felt for La Salle, while Eli Merejildo and Gavin Palombo kept things interesting for East Providence. The game ended on a highlight-reel double play turned by La Salle’s Josh Santana, sealing a win for the Rams.
