Atalanta's rising star Marco Palestra is ready to take his career to the next level. The 21-year-old Italian wing-back has been turning heads during his loan spell at Cagliari, and now he's set to return to his parent club this summer with renewed confidence and ambition.
Palestra's impressive performances in Serie A haven't gone unnoticed. He's earned a call-up to the Italian national team and attracted interest from several top clubs both in Italy and abroad. But for now, all roads lead back to Bergamo, where Atalanta will welcome him into their squad for the new season.
Speaking to DAZN, Palestra made it clear he feels ready for the next big step. "Jumping to a big club? I feel ready," he said. "This year, I've gained more confidence with every game. Every footballer must have ambitions that push them to become a top player. I don't feel special, but I know what I can do."
What makes Palestra unique? His two-footed ability. "I use both feet naturally," he explained. "There are things I prefer to do with my left, like when I'm going at a defender. But when it comes to shooting, I'm more right-footed. It just comes naturally."
When asked about his long-term future at Atalanta, Palestra's affection for the club was clear. "I had wonderful experiences at Atalanta from when I was little through last year, my first in Serie A. I had a great time." He also reflected on the Europa League triumph, admitting, "Yes, I played a game, but I don't feel it was truly mine. I don't have a medal. It's another wonderful achievement they earned, and those were unique moments."
The loan move to Cagliari has been transformative for the young talent. "It's been a wonderful year — it's changed my life. I'm so happy. This will definitely be one of the best times of my life." Being named to the team of the season was an unexpected honor. "I never would have imagined that at the start of the year. I'd love for it to happen every year, but it's not easy with so many high-quality players. For now, it's fine — we'll see what happens next."
As Palestra prepares for his return to Atalanta, one thing is certain: this versatile wing-back is ready to make his mark, whether in Bergamo or beyond. His ambition, confidence, and natural talent make him one of Serie A's most exciting young prospects to watch next season.
