Pep Guardiola has delivered a characteristically witty response to questions about Manchester City star Rayan Cherki's unconventional style—and even found time to joke about the Frenchman's impressive boxing skills.

Speaking ahead of Monday's Premier League clash with Everton, the City boss was asked whether Cherki, who arrived from Lyon last summer for £34 million, fits the mold of a "typical Guardiola player." Guardiola dismissed the notion entirely.

"That is a good question! That is what I wanted to ask you—what is my typical player?" Guardiola quipped. "I don't have typical players. As much as they love to play, they can play. If he's not my typical player, it's not bad for the first season what he's doing."

The 22-year-old has been a revelation at the Etihad, tallying 23 goal contributions across all competitions in 46 appearances. His stunning opener in City's 2-1 win over Arsenal in April was a highlight, cementing his status as one of English football's most exciting talents.

Guardiola expanded on his philosophy, rejecting the idea that only certain players fit his system. "I remember when I was in Barcelona, and Barcelona had 18 special players—no! There are good players, and not good players. If you are a good player and strong here, you can play in all the big teams in the world. All the players I have here are my type of players, all of them."

When the conversation turned to Cherki's boxing videos on Instagram, Guardiola couldn't resist a joke. "His boxing videos were scary—top, top!" he said with a grin. "But I will not discuss Instagram content with him. He will play every game!"
