Barcelona are reportedly big admirers of Chelsea's Joao Pedro, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing the Catalan giants consider him a "fantastic" striker. However, any potential move for the Brazilian this summer looks set to be extremely complicated.
Pedro has been a shining light in what's been a challenging season for the Blues. Since his £60m move from Brighton last summer, the 22-year-old has made an instant impact, scoring in both the Club World Cup semi-final and final. His 20 goals across all competitions—including 15 in the Premier League—have made him one of Chelsea's standout performers.
The Brazilian's form has been so impressive that he's all but secured the club's Player of the Season award, fending off competition from Liam Delap to establish himself as the first-choice number nine. A stunning bicycle kick against Nottingham Forest, though ultimately in a losing effort, only added to his growing reputation.
Barcelona's interest comes as they look for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, but Chelsea have made it clear Pedro is not for sale. Romano explained on his YouTube channel: "João Pedro is very important to Chelsea, they won't want to sell him to FC Barcelona. Chelsea are absolutely considering João Pedro as a crucial part of the project. After a difficult season, to sell probably the only player who performed in a top, top way would be complicated."
For Chelsea fans, this news provides some reassurance. Losing a player of Pedro's caliber—especially after a turbulent campaign—would be a tough pill to swallow. While Barcelona's admiration is flattering, it appears the Blues are determined to keep their star striker at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.
