Jamie Carragher has sparked fresh debate around Anfield, warning that Liverpool might be sleepwalking into a scenario all too familiar for their rivals across the Northwest. The former Reds defender fears that by keeping faith in Arne Slot, the club could repeat the same missteps Manchester United made with Erik ten Hag.

Slot's stock has taken a serious hit over the past year. Once hailed as a steady hand following Jürgen Klopp's departure, the Dutchman now faces growing discontent among the fanbase. As one pundit put it bluntly, supporters feel "disconnected" from the 47-year-old—a damning verdict that's hard to ignore.

Despite the mutinous atmosphere at Anfield on Saturday, FSG reportedly "fully intend" to stick with Slot, according to David Ornstein. But Carragher isn't convinced that loyalty is the right play. Drawing a direct line to Ten Hag's trajectory, he shared his concerns on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football: "My worry with Liverpool and Arne Slot is, are we going to be in a situation a bit like Ten Hag where he had a great first season? Slot won the league—that's a completely different level—but the second season was really poor, and you keep the manager on the back of what he did in the first season and it carries on poorly. Then you get to October or November and think you've got to change the manager."

It's a cautionary tale worth revisiting. Ten Hag made a strong early impression at Old Trafford, guiding United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and lifting the Carabao Cup in his debut season (2022/23). But the following campaign saw the Red Devils plummet to eighth, saved only by a fortunate FA Cup win. By October 2024, Ten Hag was gone, with United languishing in 14th—a far cry from the promise of just 18 months earlier.

For Liverpool, the concern is clear: can Slot reverse the tide before history repeats itself, or are the Reds destined to learn the same hard lesson the hard way?
