After a period on the sidelines, Arsenal's young star Myles Lewis-Skelly has seized his chance to shine. The midfielder, who has started the last three games for the Gunners, is determined to help bring the club "back to glory."
Lewis-Skelly's return to the starting eleven marks a significant turnaround after a challenging spell. "It was tough initially," he admitted, reflecting on his reduced game time this season compared to last. But the 18-year-old's resilience has been key. "Sport is not one pathway, because there are ups and downs. It's how you bounce back from adversity that defines you."
During his time out of the team, Lewis-Skelly turned to his inner circle for support. "I spoke with my family and friends. I told them: 'I don't want to hear all the noise from social media. Let me stay in this moment, face this adversity, and come out the other side.'" His patience paid off when the opportunity came against Fulham. "I feel like I took my opportunity and helped the team as much as I can."
A product of Arsenal's academy, Lewis-Skelly has primarily been deployed at left-back since breaking into the first team. However, his recent return to midfield—his natural position—has been a welcome change. "The manager told me: 'You are going to play midfield, so go for it.' I had to be bold and play with courage, because that's what this league demands," he said. "It feels so natural for me to be there. I've been training there a lot, so I felt comfortable and took that opportunity."
Having signed a contract extension last year that keeps him at the club until 2030, Lewis-Skelly is focused on the immediate future. "I'm focused on the games we have coming up and bringing this club back to glory," he stated.
With three consecutive wins under their belt, Arsenal fans have every reason to be excited about Lewis-Skelly's resurgence. As the season heats up, his versatility and determination could prove vital in the Gunners' quest for silverware.
