When Denver Summit FC took the pitch for their historic inaugural home match last March, the energy was electric. A record-breaking crowd of 63,004 fans packed Empower Field at Mile High—the home of the NFL's Denver Broncos—to witness the city's newest team make history. And at the heart of the celebration, controlling the vibes and setting the tone, was DJ Cyn.
For the Denver native, it was a full-circle moment. Born Cynthia Mardones, she's been spinning records for two decades, but her journey with soccer started long before she ever touched a turntable. "It's very cool to just be involved in soccer because I literally have done it all," she told Urban Pitch. The sport runs deep in her blood, shaped by her Chilean and Palestinian heritage, and it's that background that gives her work as a DJ a sense of purpose.
DJ Cyn is all about community and empowerment. Alongside her twin sister, she runs a production company that provides sound for events across Denver, making it easy to give back. Her resume is as diverse as her musical range—she's performed everywhere from Bangkok to major U.S. cities, and has supported acts as varied as Usher, Miguel, Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, Twista, Doja Cat, David Foster, Major Lazer, and even Reba McEntire. She's also no stranger to sports, having performed at the X Games and served as the official DJ for the Colorado Spartans arena football team.
But being part of Denver Summit FC's journey has been something extra special. From providing the soundtrack at the brand launch party to consulting on matches to help shape the team's sonic identity, DJ Cyn has been there every step of the way. And when it came time for that landmark home match, she was ready. "I feel like I'm made for this," she said. "I feel like I was born to be doing this."
Whether she's behind the decks or advocating for the beautiful game, DJ Cyn is proving that the right soundtrack can make a historic moment unforgettable. And for fans who want to channel that same energy, there's no better way than rocking the gear that celebrates the game—and the people who make it come alive.
