The iconic stadium, once a place where visiting teams dreaded to tread, is losing its intimidating edge—and the growing frustration with manager Arne Slot is becoming impossible to overlook.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Anfield was a true stronghold. Between April 2017 and May 2024, Liverpool lost just two Premier League home games in front of fans. Speaking on the Media Matters podcast for Anfield Index, Steele didn't hold back. "The fortress is completely gone," he said. "In Liverpool's worst moments over the last 10 years, Anfield was still a fixture that teams and fans would say, 'I don't fancy our chances there.' Now, if I supported any team in the Premier League, I would look at Anfield and think, 'Oh, we could win there.'"

Steele also pointed to the growing dissatisfaction with Slot's style of play, describing it as "slow" and noting that the fans have "seen enough." He even suggested he wouldn't blame supporters for heading for the exits early—a sight that has become all too familiar in recent months. "Every Liverpool fan I speak to, apart from a very small number, doesn't think he's the man to turn it around," Steele added, emphasizing that the negativity toward the head coach is something FSG "can't not hear."
