When you think of IPL tickets, you imagine the thrill of watching your favorite stars live—but for some fans, that dream came with an outrageous price tag. Delhi Police have uncovered a shocking alleged ticket scam involving a top official from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), where complimentary passes meant for insiders were reportedly sold for up to ₹80,000 each.
The scam came to light after three men—Mukeem, Gufran, and Md. Faisal—were arrested outside the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 8 during an IPL 2026 match between the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Following their interrogation, investigators tracked down a key middleman named Pankaj Yadav, who was also arrested. The probe then led to four DDCA officials being called in for questioning.
According to a report from the Indian Express, the alleged mastermind is a top DDCA official who ran a "systematic racket." Investigators estimate that between 1,000 and 1,200 complimentary tickets—normally reserved for association members and VIPs—were illegally sold at inflated prices to desperate fans. As per BCCI rules, the host state association gets 10 to 15 percent of the stadium's capacity as complimentary tickets, with around 4,000 passes given to members.
The pricing was anything but uniform. A Delhi Police source revealed: "Depending on the star value of the game and players, the rates would be decided. Closer to the start of the game, they would charge more." For the Royal Challengers Bengaluru match featuring Virat Kohli, tickets were allegedly sold for as much as ₹80,000. Prices ranged from ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 based on demand.
This scandal is a stark reminder of how the passion for cricket can be exploited. For fans, it's a cautionary tale: always buy tickets from official sources. For the sport, it's a call for tighter controls on complimentary passes. As the investigation continues, one thing is clear—when demand skyrockets, so does the risk of foul play.
