In a move that adds fuel to one of college basketball's fiercest rivalries, former Georgia Bulldogs center Jackson McVey has committed to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, per Kelly Quinlan of Rivals. Standing at an imposing 7-foot-1 and 225 pounds, McVey is crossing the line of the Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate rivalry, trading the red and black for the gold and white.

McVey, a three-star recruit from the class of 2025, was originally brought to Athens as a promising big man from the Overtime Elite program in Atlanta. Ranked as the No. 31 center in his class, he was seen as the future anchor of Georgia's frontcourt—especially after Somto Cyril entered the transfer portal and eventually committed to Miami. But instead of stepping into that starting role, McVey decided to test the portal himself.

Now, he's heading to a program in desperate need of a turnaround. Georgia Tech hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 2021, and their last March Madness win dates all the way back to 2010. Last season was particularly brutal: the Yellow Jackets stumbled to an 11-20 record, including a dismal 2-16 mark in ACC play, finishing dead last in the conference and missing the ACC Tournament entirely. That led to the firing of head coach Damon Stoudamire, who has since been replaced by Troy Trojans head coach Scott Cross.

In a twist of irony, McVey's only game action in a Georgia uniform came in an exhibition matchup against Cross's Troy squad. Now, he'll be playing for that same coach in Atlanta, hoping to carve out a role in a rotation that sorely needs a boost. With his size and potential, McVey could be a key piece as Georgia Tech looks to rebuild—and perhaps, reignite a rivalry that's been waiting for its next chapter.
