The New England Patriots kicked off their 2026 rookie minicamp on Saturday in Foxborough, and if the first session is any indication, the future is in good hands—literally.

Head coach Mike Vrabel, known for his hands-on coaching style, was back at it again. With a pad strapped to his chest, Vrabel worked directly with the rookies, just as he did a year ago in his first minicamp. This time, he walked onto the field alongside second-round pick Gabe Jacas, who now wears Vrabel's former number 50. The message was clear: this is a coach who leads by example.

"It's great," said linebacker and sixth-round pick Namdi Obiazor. "I feel like it's obviously good to have a coach who's involved. Sometimes, they can kind of be in the back and just let position coaches do their thing. But I definitely love how Coach Vrabel is involved with practice."

During the session, Vrabel was particularly active during the third period, where he worked closely with Obiazor on personal punt protector drills. Later, he shifted his focus to rookie offensive lineman Dametrious Crownover, offering real-time coaching that left a lasting impression.

"It's great. He's a great guy, and I learned a lot from him already just being here a few days," Crownover said. "What it takes to play offensive line at the elite level. He's not going to let you slack off. He's going to stay on you and make sure he's getting the best out of you."

The 75-minute practice featured 39 players in total, including draft picks, undrafted free agents, 17 tryout players, and a few practice squad veterans. It was a high-energy, fast-paced introduction to the Patriots' way—and a reminder that Vrabel's team is built on effort, attention to detail, and a coach who's never afraid to get in the trenches.

Here are the top takeaways from the day:
