Despite being Texas Longhorns commitment for almost six months, rival SEC coaches are trying to get the elite prospect to flip, especially LSU.

The recruiting battle for five-star wide receiver Easton Royal is heating up, and it's a showdown that has college football fans on the edge of their seats. The elite pass-catcher from New Orleans has been a Texas Longhorns commit since November, when he watched Steve Sarkisian's squad take down rival Texas A&M at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. But nearly six months later, that commitment is being tested like never before.

Enter LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin, who have turned up the pressure to flip the in-state star. For Tigers fans, losing a top Louisiana prospect stings—especially one of Royal's caliber. The program has even leaned into the mantra "Keep the best in the Boot," making Royal's recruitment a matter of state pride. Leading the charge from within LSU's own ranks is 2026 recruit Lamar Brown, who has taken to social media to appeal to Royal's Louisiana roots, urging him to reconsider his pledge to Texas.

But Royal isn't shutting any doors. He continues to visit LSU's campus in Baton Rouge, and that's only encouraged Kiffin to keep pushing. "All day at school, all of my friends are pushing me to flip to the LSU Tigers," Royal told Fox 8 New Orleans last month. "You only get this process once—so I'm committed to Texas, but I'm still trying to figure out if that's the best decision for me. The ultimate end goal is to make the best decision for my family and me. Coach Lane and I are building a relationship. He texts me often, just telling me to have a good week—sending me videos, motivating me, and recruiting me to be an LSU Tiger."

The Tigers are also leveraging their connections at Royal's high school, Brother Martin, and are reportedly preparing a competitive NIL package to rival what Texas can offer. With an official visit to LSU on the horizon, this battle is far from over. For now, Royal remains a Longhorn—but in the world of elite recruiting, a commitment is only as strong as the next offer.
