The recruiting trail is heating up, and the Oregon Ducks are once again in the mix for one of the nation's top prospects. After a stellar April that saw them land six commitments—including five-star quarterback Will Mencl—the Ducks have set their sights on another elite talent: five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou.
Fakatou, ranked as the No. 27 overall player in the Rivals Industry Rankings, has narrowed his list of suitors to five powerhouse programs: Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, and Georgia. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-7 and 275 pounds, the Sierra Canyon standout is the No. 2 defensive lineman in the 2027 class. His rare combination of size and length makes him a versatile threat, capable of dominating both the interior and the edge.
The Ducks have already made a strong impression. Fakatou took an unofficial visit to Eugene in March, and left feeling like Oregon was leading the race. But as is often the case in high-stakes recruiting, the momentum has shifted with each subsequent visit. According to Rivals' Greg Biggins, Ohio State currently holds the edge, with Notre Dame and Georgia right on their heels.
Fakatou's recruitment is far from over. After an unofficial visit to South Bend last week, he locked in an official visit to Notre Dame for June 15—just three days after he's scheduled to be in Eugene for his official visit with the Ducks. That back-to-back scheduling could be pivotal, as the last impression often carries the most weight.
Oregon's chances could get a boost from a familiar face. Fakatou's Sierra Canyon teammate, four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie, will join him for the June visit to Eugene. Currie, who attended Oregon's spring game, is already seen as a strong lean toward the Ducks. If Oregon can land both, they'd be securing a formidable duo that could anchor their defensive line for years to come.
The Ducks have been investing heavily in their defensive front for the 2027 cycle, already securing commitments from four-star defensive linemen Zane Rowe and Cam Prit. Adding a player of Fakatou's caliber would be a statement—and a game-changer for Oregon's future defense.
