The countdown is officially on: less than four months until real 49ers football is back. As the offseason rolls on, the team is making moves, rookies are making impressions, and there's plenty to get excited about for the season ahead.

Rookie Camp Standouts: Mykel Williams and More
At rookie camp, all eyes were on defensive end Mykel Williams. Standing a lean 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds, Williams impressed with his quickness while working closely with defensive line coach Kris Kocurek. The real test will come at training camp, where we'll see how well he sheds blocks. On the other side of the line, fourth-round pick Gracen Halton brings a different kind of power. At the same height but 54 pounds heavier, the defensive tackle was sending blocking sleds flying—a promising sign for a player who could add some punch to the interior.

New Face in the Linebacker Room
The 49ers have signed undrafted free agent linebacker Larry Worth III to a three-year deal after an impressive showing at rookie minicamp. To make room, the team released linebacker Milo Eifler. Worth brings serious athleticism to the position. At Arkansas's Pro Day, he posted a 37.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-2 broad jump—the latter would have tied first-round pick Sonny Styles for the best mark at the NFL Combine. He also ran a 4.66 40-yard dash at 226 pounds. Worth's versatility is a key asset: he played both linebacker and safety in college, and even spent time at the hybrid "Hog" position and boundary safety during his senior year. In 2025, he started 11 games and recorded 64 tackles.

Former 49er Suggests a Position Switch for Rookie
Former 49ers safety Donte Whitner has a strong opinion about fourth-round draft pick Ephesians Prysock. "I don't think that he should ever step foot in the cornerbacks' room," Whitner said. "Go straight to the safeties' room and learn the safety position, start from the beginning." Whitner believes Prysock has all the attributes to become a playmaker at free safety. "I'm telling you, they haven't seen anything like this," he added. With training camp on the horizon, it will be interesting to see where the coaching staff decides to line him up.

Whether you're tracking rookie progress or just counting down the days until kickoff, there's no shortage of storylines to follow. Get your gear ready—49ers football is coming soon.
