The 49ers WR room got upgrades with every addition this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers have been busy this offseason, and nowhere is that more evident than in their revamped wide receiver room. While Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch made moves across the board, it's the trio of new pass-catchers that has drawn the most attention—and for good reason.

According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, the 49ers' wide receiver group is the team's most improved position heading into the new season. And when you look at the additions, it's easy to see why.

San Francisco brought in three new receivers: veteran star Mike Evans, proven slot threat Christian Kirk, and rookie De'Zhuan Stribling, the team's first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Together, they form a significantly stronger supporting cast around rising young receiver Ricky Pearsall.

"There is uncertainty in how much Evans and Kirk still have in the tank and whether Stribling can produce right away," Wagoner writes. "But the options alongside Ricky Pearsall are undoubtedly much better than they were a season ago."

What makes this overhaul especially impressive is how each new addition directly addresses a departure. The 49ers lost Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, and Kendrick Bourne this offseason—three key contributors from recent seasons. In their place, they've brought in upgrades at every level.

Evans steps in as the top target, replacing Jennings' production with a Hall of Fame-caliber resume. Even if the future Hall of Famer isn't at his absolute peak, he's still a massive upgrade. Stribling, meanwhile, offers a high-upside replacement for Aiyuk, who was costly and missed the entire 2025 season. As Wagoner notes, even modest production from the rookie would be an improvement given Aiyuk's absence.

And then there's Kirk, a veteran with multiple productive NFL seasons under his belt. He's not just depth—he's experienced, reliable depth, which is a clear step up from Bourne's role last year.

The 49ers didn't just replace their departed receivers. They upgraded every single spot. And for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, that kind of offseason work in the passing game could make all the difference.
