The San Francisco 49ers will have an extra man on their offseason roster after the NFL granted them an exemption for offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón, per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. Alarcón, who is from Mexico, joined the NFL in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys thanks to the International Player Pathway Program. The 49ers signed him to a futures deal in early 2026 after previously doing so in 2024 and 2025.

The exemption means Alarcón won't count toward the 49ers' 90-man offseason roster or the active roster during the offseason, but he will count toward the active roster once it's trimmed to 53 men before the 2026 season starts.

Alarcón, 27, hasn't played a regular-season game in his career, but he was suspended without pay for the first six games of 2025 for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

Like in the past two offseasons, Alarcón is likely a training camp body who will fill out the roster while the 49ers decide who should and should't make the team for the 2026 season.
