The 6-foot-7 senior from Sagemont Prep in Florida made the decision official after a visit to Chapel Hill earlier this week, pledging his future to new head coach Mike Malone.

Originally signed with LSU, Thomas reopened his recruitment in late March following a coaching shakeup in Baton Rouge. When Will Wade returned to replace outgoing head coach Matt McMahon, the Pompano Beach native decided to explore other options. On3's Jamie Shaw had this to say after evaluating Thomas at USA Basketball last April: "Kevin Thomas is a twitchy athlete and was at his best getting downhill in transition. He showed some flashes in the half-court, but will need to continue working on making plays off movement. He has upside as a defender with some intriguing long-term traits to work with."
