Big news coming out of the Windy City: one of the Midwest's top defensive prospects is ready to make his college choice. Tavares Harrington, the standout four-star safety from Chicago Mount Carmel, has locked in his commitment date.

Standing at an impressive 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Harrington brings the kind of length and athleticism that has college coaches buzzing. He tells Rivals that he'll announce his decision on May 22, with three powerhouse programs still in the mix: Alabama, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

Harrington's recruitment has been heating up all spring. He recently trimmed his list from a top five that included Auburn and Ole Miss, though those programs remain in contention per the latest updates. The blue-chip defensive back has been putting in serious miles on the recruiting trail, taking visits to get a feel for each program's culture and coaching staff.

So what's Harrington looking for in his future home? It's all about authenticity and development. "I want to find a program with a great coach that is good with developing players at my position," he shared earlier this year. "A coach that's going to treat you like family... I know some coaches change their whole personality when they get around the recruits, so I just wanna be with a real coach and somebody that's gonna really develop me and give me a chance to play early."

Currently ranked as the No. 124 overall prospect and No. 8 safety in the 2027 cycle, Harrington is also the eighth-best recruit in Illinois. His decision will come just over a week after his Mount Carmel teammate, four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, announces his own commitment—adding even more intrigue to an already exciting recruiting season in the Midwest.
