The Oregon Ducks came up just short in their pursuit of four-star safety Kailib Dillard, as the Tulsa, Oklahoma standout announced his commitment to the Florida Gators on Tuesday. While the Ducks were named among his final three—alongside Georgia—the decision was not entirely unexpected, with recruiting experts from Rivals having long predicted a move to Gainesville.
Dillard, ranked No. 244 overall in the class and the No. 8 player from Oklahoma, brings impressive size at 6'2" and 185 pounds to the Gators' secondary. For Oregon, however, the setback is softened by an already strong defensive back haul in the 2027 class. The Ducks have secured commitments from four-star safety Semaj Stanford and four-star corners Ai'King Hall and Josiah Molden, giving them a solid foundation to build on.
But don't count Dan Lanning and his staff out just yet. Known for their late-cycle momentum and ability to flip commitments close to signing day, the Ducks are expected to keep tabs on Dillard as he enters his senior season at Jenks High School. If he continues to rise in the rankings, Oregon could test his commitment down the line.
Even if Dillard stays true to Florida, the Ducks are in good shape overall. Their 2027 class currently ranks No. 6 nationally according to Rivals, with eight of their 11 commits on the defensive side of the ball. And the recruiting grind continues: Oregon is actively pursuing a flip from five-star cornerback Donte Wright, currently committed to Georgia, and gaining traction with four-star safety Junior Tu'upo. Five-star corner Hayden Stepp is also scheduled for an official visit to Eugene next month.
