In a major recruiting win for the Florida Gators, four-star offensive tackle Elijah Hutcheson has officially announced his commitment to the program, declaring, "My feet are planted, and they are planted at Florida."
The standout lineman from Roanoke (Va.) North Cross, ranked No. 91 in the Rivals Industry Ranking, made his decision after a thorough evaluation of more than 30 scholarship offers. Hutcheson ultimately chose the Gators over Clemson, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech, with the Commodores providing the stiffest competition.
"It really came down to Florida and Vanderbilt," Hutcheson shared. "I've got great relationships with both, and I could see myself at both, but I felt best about Florida. The development factor at Florida really stood out. They have a great program and a great way of doing things. I trust the coaches and believe in what they can do with me."
A key figure in Hutcheson's recruitment was offensive line coach Phil Trautwien, who had been building a relationship with the prospect for years—long before arriving in Gainesville. "I've been talking to him for a long time… he's one of the best O-line coaches in the country," Hutcheson said. "We have been talking for about three years, going back to when he was at Penn State. The way he breaks down the game makes it like he is a teacher in the classroom. Everybody understands it."
When Trautwien joined the Florida staff, the Gators quickly moved from an afterthought to a serious contender. "Before Coach Traut went to Florida, I wasn't really considering Florida," Hutcheson admitted. "He went there, we kept talking, and it made me interested in them."
A spring visit to campus sealed the deal. Hutcheson spent three days in Gainesville, experiencing everything from practice sessions to team meetings. "You're working all day, but it's what I need to get to the next level. It showed me the level I need," he said.
Head coach Jon Sumrall also left a lasting impression. "He's got great energy… he makes you want to be better," Hutcheson noted. "He cares about you as a person, not just a player. Coach Sumrall is a winner, he works hard, and he is going to get the best out of you."
With Hutcheson's commitment, Florida adds a powerful and versatile offensive lineman to its future roster—a player who values development, trust, and a winning culture. For Gators fans, this is a statement signing that signals the program's growing momentum on the recruiting trail.
