'We need some good luck': Rishabh Pant banking on luck factor as LSG near IPL 2026 exit

Rishabh Pant was left dejected after LSG faced yet another loss against MI on Monday.

Rishabh Pant couldn't hide his frustration after Lucknow Super Giants suffered yet another crushing defeat, this time at the hands of Mumbai Indians on Monday. The loss has pushed LSG to the brink of elimination from IPL 2026, leaving their captain hoping for a change in fortune.

Putting up 228 runs after batting first at Wankhede Stadium, LSG looked in control. But a scintillating century opening partnership from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton saw MI chase down the target in just 18.4 overs, handing LSG their seventh loss in nine matches this season.

With only five games remaining, the math is simple but brutal for Pant's side: they need to win every match convincingly to boost their net run rate, then pray other results go their way. It's a tall order for a team that's been struggling to find consistency.

Pant didn't hold back in his assessment after the match. "The way we started, we should have definitely got more runs," he told the broadcaster, pointing to the early fireworks from Nicholas Pooran that weren't capitalized on. "We were short 10-15 runs. On a wicket like this, you can't blame the bowlers—they've been doing a great job. We need some good luck, man. It'll take more effort from us, for sure."

For LSG fans, the season is slipping away fast. But if there's one thing cricket teaches us, it's that luck can turn quickly—and Pant is banking on that more than ever as his team fights to stay alive in the tournament.
