Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is bracing his squad for a major test this Sunday, warning that Middlesbrough's recent struggles in the Championship are deceptive. Despite Boro's six-game winless run, McKenna sees a top-tier opponent ready to battle at Portman Road.
"We're facing a really strong opponent," McKenna stated. "Stylistically, they've been one of the dominant teams in the league over the last few months, even if results haven't always shown it. When two top teams clash, current form often goes out the window."
He emphasized his respect for a Middlesbrough side that has built a solid foundation over recent seasons, highlighting their proactive style. "They're one of the few teams who will come and try to impose their game. We expect a huge challenge, but we believe in ourselves. In our own stadium, we're a formidable team to play against."
In a significant boost for the second-placed Tractor Boys, key full-back Leif Davis is set to return to the squad after missing the midweek defeat at Portsmouth. "He should be nice and fresh," McKenna noted, "and we're going to need a big output from him."
The news is less positive for winger Wes Burns, who remains sidelined with a calf injury. Midfielder Azor Matusiwa will also require assessment as he recovers from a dead leg sustained in the previous match.
