For 25 years, Dirk Allen has been the unmistakable voice echoing through the gymnasiums and stadiums of Badin High School. Now, that voice has earned him a permanent place in the school's history.

Allen, the longtime public address announcer and former school official, was recently inducted into Badin's Athletic Hall of Fame as an "exemplary volunteer." He was one of six honorees celebrated at a ceremony in late April at the Hamilton-based private school.

Though retired from full-time work, Allen continues to volunteer part-time—a testament to his enduring passion for the Rams. Before joining Badin's staff in 2001, he served as Managing Sports Editor for the Hamilton Journal (now the Journal-News) and became one of Butler County's most respected prep sports officials. At Badin, he has worn many hats: admissions director, journalism teacher, public information officer, and—most notably—the man behind the microphone.

For years, Allen has been the game announcer and score bookkeeper for football, boys' and girls' basketball, and numerous other events at Butler County's only Catholic high school. His voice has become synonymous with Friday night lights and buzzer-beating moments.

"It was quite an honor, and really an unexpected one," Allen said. "I have been involved with Badin athletics for a long time, and you do things because you enjoy them, not because you're expecting some kind of award. Being inducted into the Badin Athletic Hall of Fame is really special to me."

His dedication extends beyond the microphone. For 31 years, Allen has also kept the official scorebook for girls' basketball—a role he calls "a fun bandwagon to ride."

"The students have energy, so I have energy," Allen said. "I've been at Badin High School for 25 years, with more to come. I've been blessed to be here."

Geoff Melzer, Badin's athletic director and a Hall of Fame Committee member, summed it up best: "I'm not sure I could list all of the things that Dirk Allen does at Badin High School. He has a lot of enthusiasm and really supports our students across the board. I know he was surprised when he was named to the Hall of Fame, but the committee told him, 'Of course you're going in; you deserve it.' His contributions to our athletic program have been invaluable for many years. He's a great member of the Badin family."

Allen joins a distinguished 2024 inductee class that includes: Wayne Doehlman (Hamilton Catholic High, Class of 1963, track); Scott Sherman (Badin Class of 1982, football); Jessica Flannery Spaeth (Badin Class of 2006, tennis); Lizzy Sunderhaus (Badin Class of 2008, basketball); and Zach Toerner (Badin Class of 2009, football and baseball).

For fans and athletes alike, Dirk Allen isn't just the voice of the Rams—he's the heartbeat of Badin athletics. And now, that heartbeat has a permanent home in the Hall of Fame.
