Jeremy Doku has been setting the Premier League alight, and Manchester City's title hopes are burning brighter because of it. The 23-year-old winger recently admitted he needed to add more goals to his game to be considered among the world's elite—and he's delivering in spectacular fashion.
Doku's stunning opener against Brentford on Saturday set the tone for a commanding 3-0 victory, as he cut inside and curled a delightful finish past the goalkeeper. It was a carbon copy of the late equalizer he scored against Everton just days earlier, showcasing a newfound composure in front of goal that's transforming his game.
With four crucial goals in his last three appearances—including a double against Southampton and a strike in the FA Cup semifinal—Doku is proving to be the difference-maker City need in the title run-in. His recent form is staggering: seven goal involvements (five goals, two assists) in his past six games, matching his output from the previous 24 matches combined.
Against Brentford, Doku gave full-back Michael Kayode a torrid time, twisting and turning with devastating acceleration and sudden deceleration that left defenders flat-footed. He could have scored within two minutes but was denied by a sharp save from Caoimhin Kelleher.
BBC's Match of the Day pundit Ashley Williams was full of praise: "This is the best we've seen of Jeremy Doku. From a defender's perspective, I'm not sure how you stop him. He's physically strong, can go either way, and his acceleration is something else—but his deceleration can leave you completely stranded."
Doku's dazzling display also saw him join elite company, becoming just the third Premier League player this season to create six or more chances and complete six or more dribbles in a single game, alongside Bukayo Saka and Elliot Anderson. For a player who once relied purely on pace and trickery, Doku is now adding the end product that separates good wingers from great ones—and City are reaping the rewards.
