Newcastle United's young star Lewis Miley has been dealt another cruel blow, with confirmation that the 20-year-old midfielder will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his right fibula in training on Tuesday.
It's been a tough campaign for the academy graduate, who had only just returned to action last month in Newcastle's 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. That comeback came after a frustrating two-month spell on the sidelines with a dead leg—making this latest setback all the more devastating.
Former Newcastle defender John Anderson summed up the frustration on BBC Radio Newcastle, saying: "The young boy has had some real bad luck, both in terms of being out for the length of time he just was and in terms of picking up this injury in training."
However, Anderson offered a silver lining: "But I suppose now is one of the best times to pick up an injury like that, if there ever was a 'best time,' because it will give him all of summer to recover. It is a shame for him though, it really is. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Miley, who celebrated his 20th birthday just last week, is scheduled to visit a specialist consultant on Wednesday. From there, he'll continue his rehabilitation with Newcastle's medical team, with hopes set on a full return in time for pre-season training.
For fans and teammates alike, it's a tough pill to swallow—but with a full summer of recovery ahead, there's every reason to believe the talented midfielder will come back stronger next season.
