Some racing drivers are defined by a single victory. Nick Tandy is defined by an impossible collection of them. While legends like Timo Bernhard, Hurley Haywood, and Tom Kristensen boast resumes that would make any driver envious, none have achieved what the 41-year-old Brit has: the Grand Slam of endurance racing. Tandy is the first driver in history to win all four major 24-hour races—Le Mans (2015), the Nürburgring (2018), Spa (2020), and Daytona (2025). That feat has earned him the fitting nickname "Mr. 24 Hours," and his career shows no signs of slowing down.
We caught up with the endurance racing icon before his latest IMSA appearance at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, where he now drives for AO Racing. His weapon of choice? The now-iconic Porsche 911 GT3 R, affectionately known as "Rexy" by fans.
"It's nice to talk about this stuff," Tandy says when asked about his Grand Slam. "But on that day, the thing was we won the Sebring 12 Hours. We beat every other team that weekend and on that day. When you look back, you perhaps won't remember that day that you won your fourth Sebring or whatever, but you might look back and think, I won all the four 24 hours, I won the big six endurance races, I won the Triple Crown, and it was that day that completed it. But in the moment you're so focused on beating the competition on that day. That's all that really matters. And that's the most important thing and the bit that gives the most satisfaction."
When pressed about which of his 24-hour victories stands out, Tandy points to the Nürburgring. "It's not because of the length. It's not because of the jeopardy of having no runoff. It's because the place is so fast. People don't realize just how fast and continually fast the Nürburgring is. There are hardly any slow-speed corners on the whole of the Nordschleife. Everything is third-, fourth-, fifth-gear stuff, which, coupled with the fact there's no runoff available, things can go wrong much easier, much more quickly on that circuit than anywhere else we race. Adding in the Eifel weather, there is no other event like it. I mean, it's crazy."
For fans looking to channel their inner endurance racer, Tandy's journey is a masterclass in perseverance, precision, and the pursuit of excellence—qualities that translate perfectly to the track and the road alike.
