'I'll do it when it's needed': 63 runs in 5 innings, but Ruturaj Gaikwad brushes aside IPL form talk

CSK, going through a transition, came into the match after a 23-run win over Delhi Capitals and followed it up with another win to move up to eighth place in the points table.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is focusing on the bigger picture as the Chennai Super Kings find their rhythm, brushing aside concerns over his personal form after a commanding 32-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders. The win marks CSK's second in a row, a crucial surge that has lifted the team to eighth in the IPL points table during a season of significant transition.

"Slowly, slowly, it is starting to come together," Gaikwad remarked post-match, highlighting the team's growing clarity. "Everyone kind of knows what their role is... they are adjusting and adapting really well according to what the team needs."

The skipper revealed the team initially targeted a score north of 210, but a tricky pitch that began to spin and slow down prompted a strategic recalibration. "We thought anything around 190 would be a good score," he said, crediting a strong bowling powerplay for making their 192/5 total more than defendable.

While the team is clicking, Gaikwad's own bat has been relatively quiet, with just 63 runs across five innings. However, the CSK leader remains unfazed and confident. "I felt it was getting into my head even when I was batting, but after the last game, I felt a bit relaxed," he shared. "I'm feeling really positive, and just a big knock is just around the corner. As long as the other guys are covering up for me, I'll do it when it's needed."

His calm leadership and faith in the process underscore a classic CSK trait: prioritizing team success over individual milestones, a mindset that often defines champions.
