'How can this be serious cricket team?' DC 'geniuses' under fire amid loss to CSK; selection calls questioned

Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh criticised Delhi Capitals over their team selection during their IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday. After captain Axar Patel chose to bat, Delhi Capitals struggled and were reduced to 69 for five in 11 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Sameer Rizvi, who remained not out on 40, and Tristan Stubbs, who scored 38, added 65 runs to help the team reach 155 for seven.

Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 campaign took another hit on Tuesday as they slumped to an 8-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium—and the fallout has been fierce, with former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh leading the charge against the team's baffling selection calls.

After captain Axar Patel opted to bat first, Delhi's innings quickly unravelled. They were reduced to a precarious 69 for five in 11 overs, with the top order failing to build any momentum. Pathum Nissanka managed just 19 off 15 balls before being caught off Mukesh Choudhary, while KL Rahul's scratchy 12 off 13 deliveries ended when he holed out to Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad off Akeal Hosein. Axar himself fell cheaply, caught at cover off Gurjapneet Singh, leaving the team in deep trouble.

However, a late fightback from Sameer Rizvi (40 not out) and Tristan Stubbs (38) added 65 crucial runs, dragging Delhi to a competitive 155 for seven. Yet, it wasn't enough—CSK chased down the target with 2.3 overs to spare, winning comfortably.

But the real talking point wasn't just the defeat—it was the team composition. Ganesh didn't hold back on social media, questioning the logic behind dropping key players like Prithvi Shaw, Abishek Porel, and David Miller. "There's so much Indian batting talent available in Delhi's camp," he wrote. "They can so easily open with Shaw/Rana/Porel along with KL, and have Miller in the middle order. Instead, the geniuses play Nissanka at the top and drop Miller. Tell me, how can this be a serious cricket team?"

With such firepower on the bench, Delhi's decision to field an underperforming top order has raised eyebrows across the cricketing world. For a team with genuine title ambitions, these selection blunders are proving costly—and the clock is ticking for Axar and the management to find the right formula before it's too late.
