'Honestly, at this point...': Bhuvneshwar Kumar gives calm response to India return speculation

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's stellar IPL 2026 form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, marked by 21 wickets and a match-winning performance against Mumbai Indians, fuels speculation about an India return. Despite the buzz, the veteran pacer remains focused on his team's success, stating he's not setting long-term goals but cherishes his career achievements.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is doing what he does best—letting his bowling do the talking. The veteran pacer has been in scintillating form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026, picking up 21 wickets in just 11 matches and playing a starring role in their title defense. With RCB sitting pretty at the top of the points table and needing just one win from their last three games to seal a playoff spot, the buzz around a potential India comeback for the 34-year-old is growing louder by the day.

But if you ask Bhuvneshwar about it, he’ll give you a characteristically calm response. In a video shared by RCB, the swing king opened up about the speculation with refreshing honesty. "I am not thinking about India's comeback," he said. "It has been many years since I stopped keeping or making long-term goals, because whenever I did that, it never worked for me." Instead, he chooses to focus on the here and now—and what a journey it has been.

"I am happy that I have played 200 matches and taken so many wickets, in the powerplay and at the death. I think it is all a reward for what I have done over the years. There have been good years and bad years. Honestly, at this point in time, I am not feeling anything special." That grounded perspective is what makes Bhuvneshwar such a beloved figure in the game. He added with a touch of wisdom, "Once I stop playing, I think these will be memories that will come in handy later. But at this point in time, for me, I think it is very normal."

Fans were treated to a vintage display of his skills during RCB's thrilling win over Mumbai Indians on May 10, where he was named Player of the Match. Bhuvneshwar tore through Mumbai's top order with figures of 4/23 in his four overs, sending back the likes of Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma in a spell that reminded everyone why he has been one of India's finest white-ball bowlers. Whether or not the national selectors come calling, one thing is certain: Bhuvneshwar Kumar is enjoying his cricket, and that's a win in itself.
