'He is going to entertain you': R Ashwin backs Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for India’s all-format superstar

Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded Rajasthan Royals' 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, calling him a "box-office player" with the potential to represent India in all three formats. Despite RR's loss, Sooryavanshi impressed with his fearless batting, scoring 440 runs at a strike rate of 236.56 this IPL season.

Ravichandran Ashwin has tipped Rajasthan Royals' teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to become India's next all-format superstar, calling him a "box-office player" who brings unmatched entertainment to the crease.

The 15-year-old has been the breakout star of IPL 2026, setting the tournament ablaze with fearless batting that has left fans and experts in awe. Despite Rajasthan Royals' 77-run defeat to Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, Sooryavanshi once again stole the spotlight with a blistering 36 off just 16 balls, including a six off the very first delivery he faced.

So far this season, the young opener has amassed 440 runs in 11 matches at an astonishing average of 40.00 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 236.56, making him RR's leading run-scorer. His standout innings came against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he smashed 103 off just 37 balls—the second-fastest IPL century by an Indian batter.

But numbers only tell part of the story. Sooryavanshi has been rewriting the record books with every outing. He became the fastest player in IPL history to reach 400 runs in a season, achieving the milestone in just 167 balls. He also set a new record for the most sixes in IPL powerplays in a single season, with 32 maximums. Recently, he became the youngest and quickest batter to hit 100 T20 sixes, reaching the landmark in only 514 deliveries.

"He is leaving no stone unturned, putting every ounce of force he can into the cricket ball," Ashwin said on JioHotstar. "The way he played, even in the U-19 World Cup final, putting everything together, he is looking like a box-office player. There are very few windows in your cricketing career where you can truly entertain, and he is grabbing every single one."

For a player so young, Sooryavanshi's confidence and aggression are remarkable. He doesn't just score runs—he makes a statement. Whether it's taking on the first ball of the innings or clearing the boundary with ease, he plays with a fearlessness that has become his trademark.

As the IPL season progresses, all eyes will be on this teenage prodigy. If his current form is any indication, we may be witnessing the rise of India's next cricketing icon—one who promises to entertain, excite, and dominate across all formats for years to come.
