After OU and Michigan were in the spotlight last year, that won't be the case this season.

When the Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan Wolverines collided in 2025, it was a college football fan's dream. ESPN's College GameDay set up shop in Norman, the legendary broadcast trio of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, and Holly Rowe called the action, and a prime-time 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff turned Owen Field into a Saturday night spectacle. The Sooners walked away with a 24-13 victory in that SEC-versus-Big Ten non-conference showdown, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch.

But if you're hoping for a repeat of that electric atmosphere in 2026, you might want to adjust your expectations. This time around, the spotlight shifts—and not in Oklahoma's favor.

Earlier this week, the kickoff time and broadcast network for the 2026 rematch were announced: an 11:00 a.m. CT start on FOX. Then came the bigger news: ESPN confirmed that College GameDay will not be heading to Ann Arbor for the Sooners-Wolverines clash. Instead, the iconic pregame show will set up in Austin for the Ohio State-Texas matchup, which kicks off in prime time on ABC on September 12th.

It's an obvious choice for the network. The Buckeyes and Longhorns are perennial powerhouses with massive fan bases, and last season's meeting in Columbus—which also featured GameDay for Lee Corso's emotional final show—was a top-five battle. The 2026 edition promises similar stakes, making it a no-brainer for ESPN to go all-in.

For Oklahoma and Michigan, that means a different kind of game day experience. With FOX owning the broadcast rights for this Big Ten home game, the Sooners and Wolverines will get the Big Noon Kickoff treatment instead. Expect Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt, and Jenny Taft to be on the call from the Big House, bringing their own brand of energy to the early window.

It's a fascinating reversal of fortunes. In 2025, Texas and Ohio State were relegated to an early kickoff on FOX while Oklahoma and Michigan basked in the prime-time glow. Now, the roles are flipped. The Sooners and Wolverines may not have the GameDay crew in town, but with a historic venue like Michigan Stadium and a rivalry that's quickly heating up, the 2026 rematch still promises plenty of drama—just on a different stage.
