'Bad Background'? Cowboys' UDFA Michael Trigg 'Motivated' To Prove Doubters Wrong

Trigg clearly has immense talent, but going undrafted has left the young tight end with a point to prove as his offseason begins.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Michael Trigg is entering his first NFL offseason with a chip on his shoulder—and he wouldn't have it any other way. After going undrafted, the athletic playmaker is determined to prove that his "bad background" won't define his future in the league.

Fresh off the Cowboys' three-day rookie minicamp, Trigg finally got the chance to hit the field and showcase his skills. Known as a receiving tight end with a knack for making highlight-reel catches look routine, Trigg is a matchup nightmare for defenses. Scouts rave about his physicality and yards-after-catch ability, traits that make him a versatile weapon in the passing game.

But talent alone wasn't enough to get his name called on draft day. Reports of immaturity and inconsistent practice habits—including whispers that he was "kicked off" the team at Ole Miss and has "lazy work habits"—kept teams from taking a chance on him. The Cowboys, however, saw something worth investing in.

"More motivating," Trigg said of going undrafted. "Just putting a chip on my shoulder, honestly."

For undrafted free agents, the road to an NFL roster is an uphill battle from day one. Yet history shows it's possible—just ask Tony Romo. Trigg believes his versatility will be his ticket to sticking around in Dallas.

"Being able to play multiple positions and being able to block through the gaps like they need me to do," he explained.

With a fresh start and a point to prove, Michael Trigg is ready to turn doubt into determination. Whether he can channel that motivation into a lasting NFL career remains to be seen—but the Cowboys are giving him every chance to write his own story.
