The Miami Grand Prix delivered all the drama we expected after Formula 1's five-week break, with Kimi Antonelli stealing the spotlight and extending his championship lead with a commanding victory. The young Italian didn't just win—he dominated, leaving his Mercedes teammate George Russell in the dust and sending a clear message to the rest of the grid.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri rounded out the podium for McLaren, showcasing the team's impressive upgrade package. But the real talking point came from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who received a post-race 20-second time penalty for repeatedly leaving the track and driving in an unsafe condition. A late spin compounded his misery, dropping him from sixth to eighth place.
Here's how the drivers rated across the full Miami weekend:
Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) – 9.5/10
As former champion Damon Hill put it on BBC Radio 5 Live, this was a "stupendous weekend" for the Italian. Three pole positions and three wins on the trot is a worrying sight for his rivals. He completely overshadowed his more experienced teammate and looks unstoppable right now.
Lando Norris (McLaren) – 9/10
Made excellent use of McLaren's upgrades, taking a dominant sprint victory on Saturday. Only the lack of wet weather on Sunday—which might have given him the edge for the race win—kept him from topping the podium again.
Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 7.5/10
Solid and consistent from the Australian, but clearly adrift of Norris. Some nice wheel-to-wheel battles with Russell, though he'll want to close that gap to his teammate.
George Russell (Mercedes) – 6/10
Completely overshadowed by Antonelli this weekend. Russell couldn't find the grip he needed and never settled into a rhythm. A weekend to forget.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 7/10
Red Bull made huge strides this weekend, but an uncharacteristic first-lap spin put Verstappen on the back foot. A five-second penalty for crossing the white line at pit exit underlined an underwhelming Sunday, though there are plenty of positives to build on.
Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) – 6.5/10
Trailed teammate Leclerc all weekend. A slow pit stop didn't help, and contact with Alpine's Franco Colapinto caused damage that hampered his race.
Oliver Bearman (Haas) – 8.5/10
His best weekend to date. Fast in every session, outqualified teammate Pierre Gasly, and ran a strong race with good wheel-to-wheel combat (though he got a bit close to Hamilton). Rewarded with crucial points.
Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 6/10
Feels like wasted potential in Miami. He was there or thereabouts all weekend but is missing that extra piece. A wild final lap with a costly mistake summed up his frustrating weekend.
