Get ready for a heartwarming celebration of community and baseball spirit! This Saturday, April 18, the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields will kick off its new season with an incredible Opening Day parade, a tradition that mirrors the excitement of the Reds' own Findlay Market parade.

Starting at 10 a.m., more than 250 youth and adult athletes will be led from Sacred Heart Church to the Groh Lane fields by parade grand marshals Larry and Debi Handley. They'll be joined by the iconic Joey The Can-Do Kangaroo and a special appearance by the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings vintage baseball team, blending past and present in a fantastic display of baseball heritage.

"Just like the Reds, we want to celebrate the start of a new season and the athletes who give us all so many reasons to smile," says Kim Nuxhall, president of the Nuxhall Foundation. He describes the fields as a "Joy Factory" primed for another season of miracles, made possible by a community that always shows up to cheer on its all-stars.

The Handleys, owners of Little Brown Dog Productions, were chosen as marshals for their invaluable support since the league's inception in 2012. Through their powerful video content, they have helped share the league's mission far and wide. "Their videos have inspired others to share in our mission, get involved, and give," Nuxhall shared, noting the emotional impact of their work.

This year, the league continues to grow, with about 150 players in the youth division and another 175 in the adult league, ensuring baseball is accessible to all. The parade route will wind from the church's parking lot onto Mississippi Road and finally down Groh Lane, building anticipation for the games to come.

Youth games begin April 25, with adult games starting May 1, promising a full spring and summer of inspiring athleticism. As Executive Director Tyler Bradshaw puts it, the community's energy fuels the players and families, making the parade one of the year's most moving moments. It's a powerful testament to the late Joe Nuxhall's legacy and a beautiful reminder of the unifying power of sports.
