The confetti may still be settling on the 2026 NFL Draft, but in the fast-moving world of football, the next class is already on the radar. For the Atlanta Falcons, a new ESPN mock draft for 2027 is projecting a significant investment in the offensive line, with Texas tackle Trevor Goosby landing in Atlanta at No. 6 overall.

Given the Falcons' unsettled quarterback situation, forecasting their 2026 finish is tricky. If the combination of Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa doesn't click, a top-10 pick becomes a very real possibility. That scenario sets the stage for addressing a critical need up front.

Goosby, standing at 6-foot-7 and 326 pounds, is described as a long-limbed prospect with plenty of room to add mass. According to the mock draft, his "above-average length makes it challenging for rushers to bypass him off the edge," and he allowed just one sack last season. Scouts highlight his "upper-tier athlete" status and lower-body quickness, making him a potential high-level starter at either tackle spot.

While the Falcons could certainly eye a quarterback with such a high pick, the offensive line is shaping up as a priority regardless of their 2026 record. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor is only on a one-year deal, and even the reliable Jake Matthews won't play forever. The time is right to groom a successor at left tackle.

Goosby's 2025 season was impressive: an 83.9 overall grade from PFF, ranking 12th out of over 600 qualifying tackles. He earned strong marks in both pass blocking (79.1) and run blocking (82.8). Most of his college snaps have come at left tackle, but he has experience on the right side as well.

The ideal path for Atlanta might be to re-sign Taylor long-term if he performs well, then use a top pick to secure a franchise left tackle like Goosby. It's a move that would protect the quarterback—whoever that may be—for years to come.
