The Tennessee Volunteers are already making moves for the 2027 recruiting class, and they've just received some exciting news from a top defensive back prospect. Four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd has officially named the Vols among his top five schools, putting Tennessee in the hunt alongside Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Ole Miss.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, Floyd hails from East St. Louis High School in Illinois—the same program that produced former Tennessee offensive lineman Javontez Spraggins. That connection could give the Vols a familiar edge as they look to bring another talented player from the school to Knoxville.

According to 247Sports, Floyd is ranked as the No. 21 cornerback in the nation and the No. 7 overall prospect in Illinois. He received a scholarship offer from Tennessee on December 3, 2025, though he has yet to make a visit to campus. Missouri was the first program to offer him back on January 18, 2025, but the competition has since grown fierce.

Floyd's recruitment has drawn interest from a long list of power programs, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan State, Florida State, North Carolina, Kentucky, Arizona State, West Virginia, and many others. With his blend of size and athleticism, it's easy to see why so many schools are vying for his commitment.

As for Tennessee, the Vols already have seven commitments in their 2027 class, including linebacker JP Peace, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, defensive lineman Kadin Fife, quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, wide receiver KeSean Bowman, and defensive back Carter Jamison. Adding a player of Floyd's caliber would be a major boost to an already promising group.

Whether or not Floyd ultimately dons the orange and white remains to be seen, but Tennessee fans have plenty of reason to be optimistic as this recruiting battle heats up.
