For a top-tier offensive line prospect, few experiences compare to stepping into the hallowed grounds of a historic program for the first time. That's exactly what happened for 2027 four-star interior lineman Jackson Roper during his inaugural visit to Ann Arbor, and the Colorado native came away thoroughly impressed.
"I really enjoyed the experience," Roper shared. "It's a good-sized city with lots to do. Most of all, it was great to see just how much the city supports the university. Every single time I turned around, there was a Block M." That kind of pervasive football culture is a major draw for any recruit looking to play in a true college football town.
The visit has made a significant impact, putting Michigan firmly in the mix. Roper, ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in Colorado by Rivals, and his inner circle are now seriously considering scheduling an official visit with the Wolverines in the coming months.
A central figure in Roper's recruitment is offensive line coach Jim Harding. While Roper had seen Harding coach before, this was his first opportunity to see him leading the unit in maize and blue. The reunion—their relationship dates back to Harding's time at Utah—seems to have strengthened Roper's belief that Michigan is the right fit.
"I have a high level of respect for him and what he’s done. His track record really speaks for itself," Roper said of Harding. "I really like the way coach Harding teaches the game. He’s straightforward and holds the guys to a high expectation. I’ve always functioned best under high expectations... I could see myself playing for him."
Roper's philosophy aligns perfectly with the hard-nosed, competitive environment Michigan fosters. He describes himself as a "'work hard first' guy" who believes maximum effort paves the way for success, a mindset that would serve him well in the trenches of the Big Ten.
While Roper has already set five official visits for this summer—to Colorado, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC—the Wolverines are very much in the race. His positive first impression of the program, the coaching staff, and the fan support has positioned Michigan as a serious contender to land this talented 2027 prospect.
