In a major win for Duke football’s future, the Blue Devils have secured a commitment from rising cornerback talent Alex Patton. The 2027 prospect, who plays his high school ball at Cibolo (Texas) Steele, chose Durham over offers from Missouri, Oklahoma State, and several other programs.

Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 165 pounds, Patton brings impressive athleticism to Duke’s secondary. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking—a weighted average that compiles data from all major recruiting services—he’s rated as the No. 572 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the No. 63 cornerback nationally. In a state known for producing elite talent, he also ranks as the No. 82 player in Texas.

Patton has already visited Duke’s campus and is scheduled to return for his official visit at the end of May—this time as a committed member of the Blue Devils’ recruiting class. He becomes the sixth pledge for head coach Manny Diaz and his staff this cycle, pushing Duke’s class to No. 44 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Patton’s high school pedigree adds to the excitement. Steele is a Lone Star State powerhouse that won 11 games last fall and finished as the No. 52 team in Texas, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. With Patton as the highest-ranked prospect on the roster this coming season, all eyes will be on his senior campaign as he prepares to bring his lockdown coverage skills to the ACC.
