The Oregon Ducks' secondary is already loaded with young talent, but Dan Lanning and his staff are focused on building for the future. Their latest target is a major one: 2027 blue-chip cornerback Hayden Stepp has placed Oregon among his final four schools.
Stepp, a towering 6-foot-3, 190-pound cover man from the powerhouse Bishop Gorman program in Las Vegas, is a consensus five-star recruit. Ranked as the No. 5 cornerback nationally for his class, he's the top-ranked player in the state of Nevada and brings a coveted combination of size and skill to the defensive backfield.
The Ducks are in elite company for his commitment. Stepp's final list includes college football titans Alabama and Georgia, as well as California, now led by former Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. Official visits to all four programs are already on the books, setting the stage for a high-stakes recruiting battle.
His on-field production speaks for itself. A MaxPreps Junior All-American, Stepp has consistently disrupted opposing passing attacks, tallying 44 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and an interception over his sophomore and junior seasons. This kind of proven playmaking ability is exactly what top programs covet.
Landing Stepp would be a massive coup for Oregon's 2027 class, which already holds a commitment from fellow four-star cornerback Ai'King Hall and currently ranks 11th nationally. It would also continue a remarkable trend for the Ducks, who have successfully secured elite cornerback talent year after year, solidifying their reputation as a premier destination for defensive backs.
