In a move that has Cyclone fans buzzing, 2027 four-star small forward Donovan Davis has officially committed to Iowa State. The 6-foot-8 standout from Freedom High School in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, made his announcement Wednesday at the school's Field House, complete with a live-streamed "Decision" event on Instagram that drew comparisons to LeBron James' iconic 2010 choice.

Davis, who already holds Freedom's all-time scoring record after surpassing 2025 graduate Drew Kortz, is the second member of Iowa State's 2027 recruiting class. He joins North Scott's Josiah Harrington, who committed back in September 2024. For a program looking to build sustained success, locking in top-tier talent this early is a major win.

"I've had a really good relationship with them and their staff," Davis told ZAGSBLOG last December. "I talk to the coaches probably about twice a week. It's a really good atmosphere out there. It is an environment you want to play in." He added that the Cyclones envision him as a versatile "wing four" — a hybrid forward who can stretch the floor and create mismatches.

Davis chose Iowa State over a stacked list of suitors, including Iowa, Nebraska, Marquette, and Wisconsin. And it's easy to see why so many programs were in pursuit. During his junior season, he posted eye-popping averages of 21.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game — all while shooting a blistering 70% from the field. Those numbers aren't just good; they're the kind of stat line that turns heads in scouting rooms and on social media.

His leadership was on full display as he guided the Irish to the D3 Sectional 2A Semifinal, where they fell 56-49 to Seymour — a team that would go on to finish as state runner-up. In that hard-fought loss, Davis still managed a team-high 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, showing he can produce under pressure.

For Cyclone fans, Davis represents more than just a recruit; he's a potential cornerstone for the program's future. Whether he's filling up the stat sheet or making the smart pass, his game fits perfectly with the gritty, high-energy style Iowa State is known for. And with two commits already in the 2027 class, the foundation is being laid for something special in Ames.
