The 2027 recruiting cycle is heating up, and Texas A&M is squarely in the mix for some of the nation's top offensive line talent. This Tuesday, all eyes will be on five-star tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola's commitment, but that's just the opening act. Four-star offensive tackle Jake Hildebrand has officially set his announcement date for Tuesday, May 19, and the Aggies are among his finalists.
Hildebrand, a standout from Arizona, is widely regarded as one of the most complete prospects in his state. Early in the process, Texas A&M appeared to be the slight favorite for his services. However, the recruiting landscape has shifted as head coach Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing have turned up the heat on five-star tackle Mark Matthews. According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, the Aggies are now the predicted landing spot for Matthews, who plans to take all his official visits before deciding.
That aggressive pursuit of Matthews has opened the door for Arizona State to make a late push for Hildebrand. Per Rivals, the Sun Devils now hold a commanding 77% chance to land the in-state prospect, making them the clear frontrunners as May 19 approaches.
While Texas A&M may not be expected to land either Olubobola or Hildebrand, their presence as finalists for nearly every blue-chip offensive lineman in the 2027 cycle speaks volumes. The Aggies have built a strong recruiting pipeline in Arizona—rising redshirt freshman cornerback Jamar Beal-Goines is a recent example—and being in the conversation for top-tier talent is a promising sign for the program's future up front.
Hildebrand will make his decision public at Basha High School on May 19 at 3:00 PM local time. Whether he chooses to stay home with the Sun Devils or head to College Station, his commitment will be a key milestone in an already exciting recruiting season.
