The biggest regular-season event in college basketball is leveling up in a major way. After initial plans to expand to a massive 32-team field for 2026, Players Era organizers have settled on a powerhouse 24-team mega event, split into two separate brackets and set to take over Las Vegas this November.
Here's what's new: the tournament will now feature an eight-team "Players Era Eight" bracket and a 16-team "Players Era Sixteen" bracket, offering more action, more matchups, and more NIL prize money than ever before. And in a game-changing broadcast shift, ESPN has secured the multi-year media rights to the event, taking over from TNT, which aired the first two iterations. The partnership was jointly announced Wednesday.
The star power is undeniable. Reigning national champion Michigan—which won last year's tournament in historic fashion—headlines a field that also includes 2025 national champion Florida, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Houston, Louisville, Tennessee, St. John's, Alabama, Miami, and Kansas. All of these programs are ranked in CBS Sports' offseason Top 25 And 1. The Big 12 will be heavily represented with eight of the 24 teams, thanks to a bold joint business venture between Players Era and Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, originally inked in 2025 and extended through 2030.
The "Players Era Eight" will tip off the week before Thanksgiving, while the "Players Era Sixteen" takes center stage during Thanksgiving week. Specific matchups, the full schedule, and ticket information are expected to be released later this month, according to sources. Notably, 13 of the 24 participating teams made the 2026 NCAA Tournament, underscoring the elite level of competition.
The women's event is also set to return in 2026, with details to be announced at a later date.
"College basketball is the hottest and one of the fastest-growing sports properties in the country," said Players Era co-founder Seth Berger. "The players have never been better, and record ratings for early-season college basketball reflect that. Led by top programs from multiple conferences across the sport, the teams in our field are stronger than ever."
For fans and apparel enthusiasts alike, this tournament is shaping up to be a must-watch showcase of the sport's brightest stars and biggest brands—all under the bright lights of Las Vegas.
