2026 Opponent Snapshot: Temple Owls

An early in-state matchup for the Nittany Lions.

Mark your calendars, Nittany Lions fans—an early in-state showdown is brewing for the 2026 season. Penn State will face the Temple Owls, a team that’s quietly building momentum under first-year head coach K.C. Keeler. After a tough 5-7 finish in 2025, Temple showed flashes of promise, especially with a gritty overtime win at Tulsa and a three-win stretch in four weeks. But a late-season four-game slide kept them just shy of bowl eligibility and landed them ninth in the American Conference. Still, the arrow is pointing up in North Philadelphia.

One of the biggest storylines? A familiar face under center. Former Penn State quarterback, an Iowa native, made the move from State College to Temple in January and is already turning heads. After limited action in Happy Valley—mostly in a two-QB package that never gave him a real chance to shine—he lit up the Owls' spring game, completing 15 of 19 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. While he hasn’t had a true opportunity to prove himself as a passer, Temple might be the perfect stage for his breakout. Sure, there’s a “revenge” narrative when he faces his old team, but most Nittany Lions fans will be cheering for his success the rest of the season.

On defense, keep an eye on senior linebacker, a Florida native who transferred from Independence Community College and made an instant impact in 2025. He led the Owls with 69 tackles, added a sack, a forced fumble, and three passes defended, earning All-Conference honors from Phil Steele. At 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, he’s got the frame and talent to build on a stellar first season in Philly. He hasn’t seen much national spotlight yet, but that could change quickly.

For Penn State fans, this matchup is more than just a tune-up—it’s a chance to see old friends and rising stars on the same field. Whether you’re repping the blue and white or just love a good underdog story, this early-season clash promises plenty of heart.
