The Carolina Panthers are riding high after a 2025 season that saw them capture the NFC South crown and make a playoff appearance. Now, with the 2026 NFL Draft just days away, General Manager Dan Morgan and his front office are meticulously planning their next move to build on that success.
Speaking at a pre-draft press conference in Charlotte, Morgan expressed confidence in the team's position heading into the event. The Panthers hold the 19th overall pick in the first round, but Morgan hinted that the spot is far from set in stone. "We're ready for all scenarios," he stated, leaving the door open for a potential trade, likely to move down and accumulate more draft capital.
This flexibility stems from a highly productive free agency period. The Panthers made significant strides by securing top targets like pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and Pro Bowl linebacker Devin Lloyd early on, followed by key additions to the offensive line. According to Morgan, these moves didn't narrow the team's draft focus—instead, they broadened it. "If anything, I think it opens up a lot of possibilities," Morgan explained. "I think all positions are on the table... we're definitely in the best-player available mindset."
While emphasizing a strategy of selecting the top talent regardless of position, Morgan did outline several areas of interest for the first round. The Panthers could target a dynamic pass-rush specialist, a playmaking weapon for quarterback Bryce Young, or a top-tier offensive tackle prospect. With the draft set to begin in Pittsburgh, the Panthers' war room is prepared for any possibility as they look to add another cornerstone piece to their ascending roster.
