2026 IMSA Laguna Seca starting lineup: Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac on pole

The team is seeking its first victory in nearly two years.

There's a new energy brewing at WeatherTech Laguna Raceway, and it's centered around the No. 40 Cadillac V-Series.R. Louis Deletraz delivered a blistering lap of 1 minute, 13.221 seconds to claim the pole position for Wayne Taylor Racing at the IMSA StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship—and the team is hungry for its first victory in nearly two years.

"Obviously it's awesome to get the pole, especially at a track like this where overtaking is really hard," Deletraz said after securing his third career pole in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. "A big thank you to Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing, because I feel we have really improved a lot in the last six months. The car has been consistently strong, and I think today was a good reward for everyone, putting it on pole."

The two-hour, 40-minute endurance race kicks off Sunday at 4:10 p.m. ET on Peacock, and the front row is an all-Cadillac affair. Jack Aitken qualified second in the No. 31 V-Series.R with a lap of 1:13.501, setting the stage for a thrilling battle among the prototypes.

Behind them, Nick Yelloly put the No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 in third (1:13.696), while Dries Vanthoor rounded out the top four in the No. 24 BMW M Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8 (1:13.735).

But the story of the session might be the struggle of Porsche Penske Motorsport. The team that has dominated the Grand Touring Prototype points this season—and won the past two races at Laguna Seca—qualified a surprising eighth and ninth in their No. 6 963s. They'll be looking to bounce back and claim a third consecutive GTP victory at this iconic 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course in Monterey, California.

For Wayne Taylor Racing, the pole is a statement. The team has been winless since June 2024, a drought that stretches back to their return to Cadillac from Acura last year. Sunday's race offers a prime opportunity to break that streak and prove their recent improvements are the real deal.

Here's a look at the pole-sitters in other categories for this endurance classic:

GTD Pro: Jack Hawksworth, No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3 – 1 minute, 21.228 seconds (99.187 mph)

GTD: Lorenzo Patrese, No. 34 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO

With the grid set and the sun shining on Laguna Seca, all eyes are on Sunday's green flag. Will Wayne Taylor Racing finally end its drought, or will Porsche Penske Motorsport reclaim its throne? One thing's for sure: the roar of the engines will be music to any motorsport fan's ears.
