The Texas Rangers exploded for seven runs on Wednesday night, taking down the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-4 in a game that felt like a breath of fresh air—literally, with the roof open at Globe Life Field.
After a frustrating night where the offense was held scoreless over nine innings, the Rangers wasted no time getting on the board. Surprise leadoff hitter Joc Pederson launched his third home run of the season on the very first pitch from Zac Gallen, setting the tone for a much-needed offensive outburst.
The Diamondbacks briefly tied things up in the top of the second, but the Rangers answered immediately. Jake Burger, returning to the lineup after a brief rest, drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the inning. Then in the fourth, Ezequiel Duran went deep with a solo shot of his own. The real damage came in the fifth, when the Rangers put up a four-spot to blow the game open at 7-1.
With that rare cushion of run support, starter MacKenzie Gore delivered his finest outing since joining Texas. The left-hander went eight strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five on 95 pitches. It was a welcome sight for a bullpen that was taxed after covering the entire game the night before.
The only blemishes on an otherwise clean night: Brandon Nimmo was removed in the seventh after twisting his ankle on an infield single, and reliever Gavin Collyer walked the bases loaded in the ninth before Jacob Latz came in to close the door.
Still, it was a night to celebrate for Rangers fans—their 20th win of the season, with the wind in their hair and the bats finally alive.
Player of the Game: Jake Burger, who sat for a few games over the weekend after a rough start to the season, bounced back in a big way. Batting eighth, he went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, providing a spark at the bottom of the order.
Up Next: The Rangers and Diamondbacks close out the series with a rubber match. Right-hander Kumar Rocker takes the mound for Texas against Arizona's Ryne Nelson. First pitch is set for Wednesday.
